Ember tetra is a tiny freshwater fish in aquarium world. The scientific name of this fish is Hyphessobrycon amandae, belongs to the family of Characidae. This fish originate from Araguaia River of Brazil, discovered in 1987. H. amandae named in the regards of Amanda Bleher mother of Heiko Bleher fish expolrer.

 Appearance of Ember Tetra

Ember Tetra is hardy and friendly for new fish keepers. The  body shape of fish is compact and slightly elongated body. This fish is distinctive due to its striking red orange color. The base color,is solid and shining bronze similar to pumpkin orange. By the grace of god, their eyes also got same pigment which makes them the vibrant fish. Some ember fish have light color and translucent body, this is due to lack of proper diet.

This Hyphessobrycon amandae is from the family of Characidae. It’s a brilliant beginner fish, known because for its elongated shape and red orange coloration. However, the size of this fish is 0.8 inches reaching to its maximum length. In centimeters this fish is 2cm. This school fish do best with neon tetra and cardinal tetra. Moreover, this specie can lives for about 2-4 years and their hardiness makes them attractive choice. 

Tank Parameters of  Ember Tetra

Ember tetra are good beginner fish, they are active, hardy and good for home aquariums. Moreover, the tank size for this nano fish is 5 gallon. They are of small size and shy nature they can keep with at least 5 individuals. Moreover, provide them with fake and live plants as cover not as nutrition. Moreover, add driftwood, cappata leaves and somes interesting botanicals. They can live in normal range of water pH level, but prefer soft and low GH water condition.

Temperature or pH level

Ember tetra originate from South America, they can live in mild acidic water. The best considered pH level for water is 5.5-7.5 with the parameters of 72-82 degree fahrenhiets. They prefer to live slow flowing, soft and moderately hard water.

For maintaining water conditions, water quality should be good and change water regularly. Use high quality filters in aquarium to keep your fish healthy and safe. As they are sensitive fish, provide them with good environment which must be clean and well maintained. 

Feeding

Ember Tetra are omnivores eat plants, insects and plant matters. They are not picky eater, they like to eat sinking food, pellets and frozen food. They also prefer to have frozen baby brine shrimp, daphina, nano pallets, cyclops and crushed flakes. Provide them with the wide variety of food, so that they don’t have nutrient deficiency like protein and vitamin, to keep them healthy.

Breeding

Breeding ember tetra is not easy, it is recommended that to add 6 pairs of this specie both male and female. While breeding males have slender body whereas, females have rounded body. As they eggs scatter in tank they will show no parental care and eat their own eggs and fry. To bred them kept them in a seasoned and mature tank with plenty of microfauna to feed fry and dense plants like water sprite as a hiding spot for fry.

Moreover, to produce greater number of this fish prepare a small and mature with air filter. Cover the bottom of the tank with craft mesh, plastic and java moss as a shelter for them. Feed the new brown fry with multiple food several times in a day, tiny food like infusoria, vinger eel and powder food.

Tankmates of Ember Tetra

Ember tetra is a shy school fish, so should be keep with other small fish like them such as rasbora. Moreover, they are also compatible for peaceful bottom dwelling fish like plecos, cory catfish etc. It’s a ideal community fish compatible with many aquarium fishes.
