WolfCat: A Wolf or a Cat?

A Wolf or a Cat? Here is my story of meeting the mighty, cute Wolfcat. I’m used to walking  30 minutes every night; I couldn’t go in the morning as I love my sleep a little too much. So yeah, while walking, there used to be a lot of cats in the area I live in and around the park. I would often look after them. I named some cats, too. They knew I visited them frequently and were also familiar with me. They used to recognise me.

A Strange Meetup with WolfCat:

But one day, a very different thing happened; I saw a new cat in the area, and tried to approach it out of habit. Still, as soon as I came near the cat, she didn’t seem familiar, and also for a second I felt like I had seen something from Dracula by Bram Stoker. Lol, I mean it wasn’t a vampire. Still, it was not a cat either, or maybe a little too unfamiliar one. It seemed like some other breed or animal. It barely had hair on the skin. Colour was like a grey mule.

Characteristics of the Unknown Creature:

I noticed that its behaviour was more like a dog, with rough hair that was not too long, a little abnormal, and the colour was greyish. Moreover, I wanted to go near it to explore more, but it was not blinking at all  & that piercing stare made me reluctant. I was still confused about what it was because it looked like a feline, but I wasn’t sure which breed. Its weight was around  7 to 8 pounds, I guess, and 8 to 10 inches tall, I believe.. Very pointy features, and as soon as my curiosity came to its peak, I heard a little pretty long hair girl with her Nanny come out from the most attractive house of the society.

WolfCat

It Belongs to Who?

Shouting out loud, calling it wolfie wolfie. She ran towards this creature and picked it up; that little girl had tears in her eyes, too, as if she had been looking at it for a long. I said hello to the nanny and asked her about it without hiding my curiosity. She responded as if my reaction was nothing new to her, and then she told me that it was a rare creature that used to be the pet of the little girl’s parents. After owning a few cats, they bought it from somewhere far away, and now the little girl owns it and loves it the most. They have had it for 8 years. I stopped her there and said no, wait, just let me know what it is first. What they told me about it was amazing.

Where did WolfCat come from?

It was a Cat, but a very distinctive one. It is known as a lykoi (Derived from the Greek word Lycos, meaning Wolf) or a Wolfcat. However, it originated in the US when a woman discovered them because of their unusual hair coat; she found them as two kittens, and finding them abnormal, she brought them to the local Vet at that time. He let them interbreed, and here we are with the next generations. This owner bought them for around 1000 dollars 10 years ago. They usually don’t let her out, but it’s the habit of stalking everybody at home or around that got her there. Their skin is sensitive to sunlight too, so there is no chance of sunbathing, too & the people also know its rarity, so keeping it inside is better.

It’s now how it looks like:

The way it was friendly with the little girl manifests. Its nature and characteristics are a little opposite to what its personality portrays because the owner or pet parent was as active and adventurous as her pet. They both cuddle and take a nap, too, sometimes.

All about Lykoi the WolfCat and Wolfie

It started playing with its owner girl while I asked more about it. I am glad Nanny had all the information I needed and some I observed. She told me that their hair is this way because they have fewer follicles in their skin, and it is in their genes (it’s also a genetic condition, hypotrichosis), so their hair is thin and sheds a lot. Nanny says that she has to deal a lot with the cat as she has to bath it every week so that their skin might not get too oily and prone to blackheads, but for its brushing, nail trimming, etc., they used to go to a Vet as they are of a little high maintenance. Their diet was of high-quality food with omega 3,6 fatty acids and was given multiple times a day, and fresh water should always be accessible for them.

Having this much knowledge about it was enough to take care of it if I ever get a chance. Now, I had to walk back home, but it’s rare yet amazing how sometimes you get a lot to know in an ordinary walk of life.
